Quality-inspected used containers at competitive prices. Cargo worthy and wind & watertight grades with full photo documentation before purchase.
Not every project demands a brand-new unit. For secure storage, agricultural use, or workshop builds, a quality used container delivers the same structural backbone at a fraction of the cost. The corten steel that makes shipping containers nearly indestructible does not lose its strength with age — it develops a protective patina that actually slows further corrosion.
At Container Coast, every 12 meter used shipping container we sell is personally walked through, inspected, and photographed before it ever appears in our inventory. We check door seals, floor integrity, roof panels, and corner posts. If a unit does not meet our standards, it does not make the cut. That means when you buy a used shipping container for sale from us, you are getting a unit we stand behind — not a mystery box off a depot lot.
Our Portland yard maintains a rotating stock of used containers in both Cargo Worthy and Wind & Watertight grades. Whether you need a unit certified for international freight or simply want weatherproof storage at the best possible price, we have options ready to ship. Browse our current inventory below, or request a quote and we will match you with the right container for your project.
Two grades, two price points. Both fully sealed against the elements.
Certified structurally sound by an accredited surveyor. Cargo Worthy containers are suitable for international shipping and long-term storage. They may show cosmetic wear — surface patina, minor dents, scuff marks — but every seal is intact and every panel is watertight. These units carry a valid CSC plate, meaning they are approved for loaded ocean voyages and intermodal transport. For most buyers, CW represents the sweet spot between cost and condition.
Retired from active shipping service but still fully sealed against rain, wind, and pests. Wind & Watertight containers show more visible wear — heavier patina, surface dents, faded paint — and no longer carry a current CSC certification. They are not approved for ocean freight, but they remain structurally sound for ground-level storage. If appearance is secondary to function, WWT units deliver excellent value for storage-only applications.
Every used container is photographed inside and out before sale.
Same structural integrity at a fraction of new container pricing. Used 12 metre shipping containers deliver the storage capacity and security you need without the premium price tag. That savings can go toward delivery, site prep, or modifications.
These containers have already survived ocean crossings, crane lifts, and stacking loads that would crush lesser structures. The corten steel has developed its protective oxidised patina — the same natural process that gives weathering steel bridges their century-long lifespan.
Used containers ship faster since they are already sitting in our Portland depot. No waiting on overseas manufacturing or trans-Pacific shipping schedules. Choose your unit, confirm the photos, and we can have it loaded for delivery within days.
Used 12 metre shipping containers typically range from $1,800 to $4,000 depending on the condition grade. Cargo Worthy units sit at the higher end of that range due to their active CSC certification and superior condition, while Wind & Watertight containers offer the most affordable option for storage-only applications. We stock two grades. Cargo Worthy (CW) containers are certified structurally sound and approved for international shipping — they carry a valid CSC plate and remain fully wind and watertight despite cosmetic wear. Wind & Watertight (WWT) containers have been retired from shipping but remain sealed against rain, wind, and pests. WWT units show more visible wear and are best suited for ground-level storage where appearance is secondary.
Absolutely. You are welcome to visit our Portland yard at 2198 N Lewis Ave to walk through any used container before purchasing. For remote buyers who cannot visit in person, we provide detailed photo documentation of every unit — including interior shots, door seals, floor condition, and close-ups of any cosmetic wear — so you know exactly what you are getting before it ships.
